President’s Address–2009

Brooke Jenkins

It has been an exciting year for AAFCS as we have celebrated the centennial of our organization.  There has been a lot of reflection on the history of AAFCS this past year and planning for the future.

As members of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, we must set a professional standard of excellence to carry us through another 100 years.  During the next year, I ask members to guide the direction of our professional development, continuing to provide timely subject matter training that is cutting edge, research based and relevant to today’s families.  We need to set the agenda for priorities of our association, and work toward specific goals that will strengthen our profession.

Finally, we must strive to serve FCS professionals from diverse career paths and expand our efforts to provide professional development beyond traditional vocations.  This year is a time to set priorities and plan for the future of the Kentucky affiliate.

The AAFCS celebrations we have had with friends and colleagues this past year is a reminder of why we are in this organization.   I hope you have found a renewed commitment to the profession and association.  Let’s keep the light of AAFCS alive for another 100 years as we go forward in the coming year!
